Kayak Course Program – Whitewater Kayaking in the French Alps

The YOURAFT kayak course is designed to offer a safe and progressive learning experience on the Guisane River, in the heart of the Serre Chevalier – Briançon valley.

Supervised by certified and experienced whitewater guides, the course adapts to each participant’s level, from beginners to intermediate paddlers, in a friendly and professional atmosphere.


Welcome & Preparation

  • Welcome at the YOURAFT base in Le Monêtier-les-Bains

  • Presentation of the course objectives and daily schedule

  • Full equipment provided: kayak, paddle, helmet, buoyancy aid, wetsuit if needed

  • Safety briefing and basic whitewater guidelines


Learning & Practice

  • Introduction to river kayaking and equipment handling

  • Basic techniques: posture, balance, paddling and steering

  • River reading: currents, eddies and obstacles

  • Progressive navigation through Class II to III rapids


Safety & Confidence

  • Essential whitewater safety techniques

  • Self-rescue skills and behavior in case of capsizing

  • Line choice and anticipation in rapids

  • Building confidence and independence on the river


Personalized Progression

  • Route selection adapted to water levels and group ability

  • Individual feedback and technical tips

  • Practice on different sections of the Guisane River

  • End-of-session debrief to reinforce learning and skills
