The YOURAFT kayak course is designed to offer a safe and progressive learning experience on the Guisane River, in the heart of the Serre Chevalier – Briançon valley.
Supervised by certified and experienced whitewater guides, the course adapts to each participant’s level, from beginners to intermediate paddlers, in a friendly and professional atmosphere.
Welcome at the YOURAFT base in Le Monêtier-les-Bains
Presentation of the course objectives and daily schedule
Full equipment provided: kayak, paddle, helmet, buoyancy aid, wetsuit if needed
Safety briefing and basic whitewater guidelines
Introduction to river kayaking and equipment handling
Basic techniques: posture, balance, paddling and steering
River reading: currents, eddies and obstacles
Progressive navigation through Class II to III rapids
Essential whitewater safety techniques
Self-rescue skills and behavior in case of capsizing
Line choice and anticipation in rapids
Building confidence and independence on the river
Route selection adapted to water levels and group ability
Individual feedback and technical tips
Practice on different sections of the Guisane River
End-of-session debrief to reinforce learning and skills
